Summer Acrylic Art Afternoons <-new
Instructor: Priscilla Barbour
Age group: 10 to teen
Wednesdays, July 1, 8, 22, 29; August 12, 19, 26
2:00 to 4:00 PM
NOTE: This is a series of one-day classes.
Firm registration deadline: Monday of that week
$15 members / $35 non-members
Materials fee of $35 to instructor at first class.
The materials fee is a one-time / first time fee for
new students. Instructor will provide materials
list if you wish to bring your own.
Spend two hours each Wednesday afternoon
during July and August exploring acrylics.
Students will begin two projects of their own
subject to be completed by the end of August.
Bring your own supplies and subject matter or
materials will be supplied for a fee.
Come any Wednesday during the summer. This
class is built for a flexible schedule to allow for
vacations and other activities.

A general introduction to drawing, this class
covers the fundamentals of drawing in charcoal
and graphite, taking the student through
sketching to producing a finished drawing.

Whitenack will teach this basic photography
class that will introduce you to the workings of
your camera. Camera components identified
and explained.
Learn how to see and read light to get correct
exposure as well as how to use flash outdoors
to improve your photos. Lots of personal
attention and hands-on practice outside to
enhance your learning.
Learn various methods to organize, store, and
archive images. Both digital and 35mm film
cameras welcome. Bring your camera, your
instruction manual, and your questions.
Take Better Pictures <--- new

An intermediate level class.
Do you feel as if your camera is controlling
you instead of the other way around? Learn
techniques to improve your photography in
the camera not on the computer!
Both film and digital photographers are
welcome. After a quick review of key camera
functions, we will concentrate on improving
composition, controlling point of focus, and
learning how to effectively use depth of field
(blurred, soft background vs. detailed, sharp
background). Learn how to see light and take
advantage of directional light to add impact to
your photographs.
Also, learn to use flash photography in low
light as well as in bright sunlight! In addition
to classroom time, there will be plenty of
opportunity to take pictures.
Lots of personal attention and hands-on
practice to enhance your learning.
Bring your camera and film/digital media, your
instruction manual, and your questions.









The Isle of Wight Arts League is again offering a Summer Arts Camp at the Arts Center @ 319. Camp will be taught by various artists and expose students to multiple media.
Four five-day (Monday to Friday) sessions are planned:
- July 13th through 17th - 9:00 AM to noon - Age group 7 to 9
- July 13th through 17th - 12:30 to 3:30 PM - Age group 10 to teen
- August 3rd through 7th - 9:00 AM to noon - Age group 7 to 9
- August 3rd through 7th - 12:30 to 3:30 PM - Age group 10 to teen
- Snacks will be provided during a short break.
- An exhibit of the students' works is scheduled at the conclusion of camp
Topics / media planned for each camp include: For Age Group 7 to 9:
- Origami, paper mache, background composition, sidewalk art
For Age Group 10 to teen:
- Acrylics, glass painting, paper mache mask
- A field trip to a working artists studio in Smithfield
The cost per child is $75 per week for members, $95 for non-members, plus a $25 materials fee. Maximum enrollment for each session is 14 students, so sign up early.
