A Recital of French, Russian and American Songs

An outstanding offering to the Smithfield Community - two world class musicians.
Amy Cofield Williamson, soprano, has performed to critical acclaim across the United States, as well as Europe and Asia. She is highly regarded for her “technical facility,” her “beauty of interpretation” and her “lovely, rich tone.” A regional finalist in the MET Auditions at Orchestra Hall in Chicago, she has performed opera throughout the U.S.and has covered Renee Fleming at Houston Grand Opera in the role of Violetta.
Andrey Kasparov, pianist, composer, conductor, and Professor of Music at Old Dominion University has performed throughout Europe, the former Soviet Union and the Americas. His compositions have been played in Russia, Ukraine, throughout Europe and the United States.

Sundays at Four introduces a new trio... Smithfield Trio
Linda Hurwitz, violinist, performer, and teacher in Hampton Roads for over twenty years, plays with the Virginia Symphony, the Virginia Opera, and the Grand Teton Music Festival in Wyoming. She received her Masters degree from New England Conservatory, teaches violin privately and in the Suffolk Public Schools.
Susan Hines, cellist with the Virginia Symphony, teaches strings for the Williamsburg/James City County schools. She directs the Tidewater Suzuki Cello Ensemble and maintains a large private teaching studio in Newport News. She is a graduate of North Texas State University.
Dr. Amanda Halstead, resident pianist with the Virginia Arts Festival, teaches piano at Christopher Newport and Old Dominion Universities. She is an active soloist and chamber music performer. She earned her BA from Rice University and her Master’s and Doctorate from Cincinnati Conservatory.

Mary Matthews, a well-known Virginia performer, teacher, coach, and choral conductor will present a master class for singers selected by prior audition.
This is a rare, wonderful, opportunity for serious singers, and accompanist, age 14 and over, to receive additional professional feedback, and for those in the audience to observe these open critiques of Broadway and Classical Songs — an outstanding learning experience for students, teachers, directors, and the public interested in fine vocal production and interpretation.
Miss Matthews’ teaching career spans more than 34 years. Her students have graduated from prestigious music schools and have become professional actors, musicians, and opera singers worldwide.

Second Solo Youth Recital

Annika Jenkins, age 15, is a 9th grade honor student at Laurel Springs Academy for the Gifted and Talented. She began playing violin before the age of three and made her solo orchestra debut at age 11. At 14, she was accepted to the Juilliard School of Music where she is a violin major studying with renowned artist-teacher, Shirley Givens. She is Principal Second Violin of the Pre-College Symphony Orchestra at Juilliard, and Concert Master of the Bay Youth Symphony.
Annika has performed in Austria, Hawaii, Italy, and the US east and west coasts. In August of 2009, she performed in our “Terrific Teen Talent” program. She recently was a soloist with the Richmond, the York River, and Bay Youth Symphonies.
Oksana Lutsyshyn, a member of The Invencia Piano Duo, is a prolific recording artist, soloist, and chamber music player.
A free-will offering will be taken for the this performance.
